Surprisingly Washable Favorites We Keep Coming Back To

Sometimes the best finds are the ones that hold up to real life—like surprise messes, last-minute laundry loads, and the occasional mystery stain. Here are a few of our favorite wardrobe staples that have stood the test of the washing machine (and our hectic schedules).

Ryka Women’s Echo Knit Loafers

We’re not sure what Ryka’s official washing guidance is, but we’ve put these through the wash over and over with excellent results. Our method? Remove the insoles and toss both the shoes and insoles into the washer on a gentle cycle using just a few drops of detergent.

Pro tip: If odors are an issue, work a little baking soda and vinegar into the insoles with a soft nylon brush before washing.

Brooks Brothers Non-Iron Dress Shirts

We were shocked (in the best way) to find our go-to men’s non-iron dress shirts on Amazon. These used to be dry cleaner territory because dry cleaners would wash and starch them, but now they go straight in the washer—and they come out looking crisp and professional.

They hold up beautifully in the dryer, too—just stick with low to medium heat.

Laundry tip: Underarm yellowing is one of the toughest stains to remove. Wearing an undershirt with white or light-colored shirts helps prevent stains and extend the lifespan of your nicest shirts.

Quince Silk & Cashmere

We’re a little obsessed with Quince—and for good reason. Their silk and cashmere pieces are luxe, affordable, and (with a little care) washable.

Here are a few fabric-specific care tips:

For both fabrics, we machine wash on gentle and hang dry.

Silk: Avoid harsh stain removers—they can damage the delicate fibers. For oil-based stains, sprinkle on some cornstarch, press with a paper towel, and let it lift the stain. Always air dry on a hanger.

Cashmere: Steer clear of enzyme-based stain treatments (they’re designed to break down proteins—and cashmere is protein-based!). For light stains, baking soda and vinegar work well. Lay flat to dry on a mesh rack—never hang, or the shoulders will stretch out. We love [this one from OXO].

Natives Kids’ Shoes

Who says shoes have to match? We love mixing and matching colors of Natives—our kids do too!

They may come home from preschool looking like they’ve been on an adventure (because they have), but these shoes are incredibly easy to clean. We scrub the soles and insides with a little baking soda, vinegar, and a nylon brush, then pop them in the washer.

Important: Use cold water only! Since they’re rubber, hot water can cause cracking and reduce their lifespan.
